The Life-giving Message
Jesus is the most famous person in all of human history. More songs have been sung to him, art created of him, and books written about him than anyone who’s ever lived. Even our calendar is based off of his life, dividing time before and after him.
Jesus is, and always has been God. According to the Bible, he was with God and he was God before the Earth was even created. At Northeast Community Church we’re all about Jesus and his life-giving message, a message of good news. The word “gospel” in the New Testament actually means “good news that is announced.” That makes the message of Jesus different from other religious messages, which might be called “good advice to be followed.”
Because we are so lost and broken that we cannot find God or fix ourselves, He has come to find and restore us. To do that he became a man, Jesus of Nazareth, though fully man while on this earth, he never ceased to also be fully God. He lived an ordinary human life, distinguished only by the astonishing fact that he never did anything wrong. He kept all of God’s laws and having done so, he transferred all the credit for that obedience to those who love and trust him.
In addition to giving us the credit for his perfect life and obedience, Jesus went further and willingly took the punishment that was due to us for our imperfect, rebellious lives. He died on the cross atoning for the sins of all humanity, undoing the separation we once had with God. When he rose from the dead, Jesus demonstrated that death had no hold on him and neither will it on those who trust in him.
Jesus is actively drawing people to himself with the free offer of forgiveness to anyone who will believe that he is who he says he is and trust him. His offer is not conditional and not based on anything we do or don’t do; it’s a free gift from a savior who created us to have fellowship with him. Being restored with God doesn’t depend on our own efforts, or even the strength and sincerity of our faith. It’s not the quality of our faith that saves us, but the quality of the One in whom we put our faith: Jesus.
What’s My Next Step?
Jesus is available to all that would seek him. He asks us to cast our cares and anxieties on him and to seek his direction in all areas of life. He promises never to leave us nor forsake us. When we believe, he begins a process of transformation within us, making us more and more like him, enabling us to reflect his love and carry out his perfect and specific will for our lives as we join him in the restoration of all things.
We couldn’t be more thrilled that you’re ready to begin exploring the reality of Jesus’ resurrection. This can be done by reading God’s Word, and getting plugged into community of Christ followers who are personally invested in your growth. We’d love to talk with you about your journey and get you connected with people who care about you.Photo By: Charles Clegg
